Aborted zone-3 after losing bombardier and navigator. Returned alone with 7 casualties and excessive damage: Nose Plexiglas completely missing, tail guns destroyed, nose guns destroyed, navigation equipment destroyed, bomb sight destroyed, damaged port elevator and pilot compartment heat out. Two Me-109s each claimed by Sgts. Kernan and Campbell; one Me-109 by Tech. Sgt. O'Shaunessy. Replacement: 2nd Lts. Bob Jones, Mark Walton & Stephen Martinsen. Temporary replacement: Sgt. Ferguson. Lt. Coleridge moved to aircraft commander. |
