New crew replacements from the USA. Aborted and dropped out of formation outbound (zone 5) due to bombardier being incapacitated. Returned alone and landed with #2 engine out, port outboard tank holed (empty upon landing), starboard elevator inoperable, #3 engine oil tank holed (self-sealed), wing root damage, several (7) superficial damage holes, and 2 casualties. Claims: 1 Me-109 by SSgt. Stanley Streich. Replacement: 2nd Lt. Kennedy. |
